Report: VimpelCom to start selling computer games by subscription
MOSCOW, Oct 4 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operator VimpelCom, working as Beeline, will start selling game console Beeline Gaming by December for 9,990 rubles with a monthly subscription of 990 rubles, business daily Vedomosti reported late Thursday, citing Chief Digital Officer George Held.
A user will get access to 100 out of 500 games on the platform, and other games can be purchased for some 2,000 rubles apiece. The number of games will exceed 2,500 units during a year, and the offer of free games will also rise, Held said.
VimpelCom insists the price is lower than the market average.
Sales will open in Moscow and Krasnodar, and the operator will later expand the geography.
In addition to the console, VimpelCom is designing an application for computer so that users will be able to launch games in the cloud.
Games will be from local companies, Buka, My.Games of Mail.ru Group, and Meta Publishing. A list of partners will grow.
A sale of games by subscription is a new format for Russia, where online cinemas use this model for films.
